Arriving at a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) with the correct documents can make the entire scrapping process quick and hassle-free. The RVSF uses these documents to verify your identity, confirm that you are the lawful owner of the vehicle, and complete the official scrapping and deregistration record.
Missing or incorrect paperwork is one of the most common reasons vehicles are turned away at the facility or experience delays in the release of the Certificate of Deposit (COD). Preparing every document in advance helps you avoid multiple trips, ensures your scrap value payment reaches your bank account smoothly, and keeps the process transparent and compliant with the official rules.
Documents You Need
Here is the standard checklist of documents required to scrap your vehicle at a registered facility. Keep photocopies ready in addition to the originals.

Original Registration Certificate (RC)
The registration certificate of the vehicle in the owner's name.

PAN Card of the Vehicle Owner
A copy of the owner's PAN card for identity and tax-record purposes.

Aadhaar Card of the Vehicle Owner
A copy of the owner's Aadhaar card for identity verification.

Bank Passbook Copy or Cancelled Cheque
Required for the secure transfer of the scrap value payment and any incentive directly to your bank account.

Valid Insurance Copy (or Last Renewed Copy if Expired)
A copy of your motor insurance policy, if available. If your policy has expired, carry the last renewed copy if you have it.

The Pollution Under Control certificate, if you have a current or last issued copy.

No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Financer
If your vehicle was purchased under a loan, obtain a NOC from the bank or financier to confirm that the loan has been settled.
Important: Combine your documents into a single file before uploading
Per the official NIC RVSF User Manual, Form 2 document upload on the vscrap portal requires your Aadhaar, PAN, RC, and bank cancelled cheque/passbook to be combined into a single file under 1MB in size before uploading — separate individual file uploads are not accepted for this step.

What if your RC is lost?
If the original Registration Certificate (RC) has been lost, the owner must file a police complaint — either an FIR or a General Diary (GD) entry — at the local police station stating that the vehicle's RC has been lost. You should then submit a copy of this police complaint along with your PAN, Aadhaar, and bank account details to the RVSF in place of the original RC. This documentation allows the facility to verify your ownership and proceed with the scrapping process.
Additional Documents for Different Ownership Types
Depending on how the vehicle is owned, you may need to provide a few extra documents in addition to the standard checklist.
If the vehicle is registered in your own name, the standard checklist applies. Keep your Aadhaar and PAN handy, plus your own government-issued photo ID for verification.
For a vehicle registered in a company's name, you will need an authorization letter from the company's authorised signatory, along with the company's registration proof and the business ID of the representative handling the scrapping.
If the vehicle was inherited after the previous owner's death, you will need the death certificate of the original owner and a legal heir certificate to establish your right to scrap the vehicle.
What Happens After Submission
Once you have submitted your vehicle along with the required documents at the RVSF, the facility follows a clear process. First, the RVSF verifies each document to confirm your identity and lawful ownership of the vehicle, and physically inspects the vehicle to record its condition.
After verification, the RVSF operator accepts your scrapping application and issues the Certificate of Deposit (COD). At this same stage, the agreed scrap value is transferred directly to your bank account — payment is always via bank transfer, never in cash. The COD is digitally signed and can be downloaded from your account. You can use it once to claim tax rebates or discounts on a new vehicle purchase, or trade/sell it within 3 years.
After the COD stage, the RVSF physically dismantles your vehicle. Once the dismantling is complete — including uploading photographs of the chassis cutout and engine cutout as proof — the Certificate of Vehicle Scrapping (CVS) is generated, typically within 7–10 days. The CVS is the final confirmation that your vehicle has been officially scrapped and removed from the VAHAN database.
